If You Have A Lot Of Left Over Cooking Oil, Make Homemade Biodiesel

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

If you have a lot of left over cooking oil, make Homemade Biodiesel. What else is a person supposed to do with left over cooking oil? What are you supposed to do with it? Unfortunately for the plumbing in Britain, many people would just pour it down the drain. Needless to say this created a huge mess for many cities. That is, until they began turning it into useful fuel.

Imagine trying to operate a business during difficult financial times. Watching the expense budget grow, while the profit margin shrinks. It is not bad enough to have to throw away used oil, but to half to pay to do it has got to be more than a bit frustrating. Not a pleasant experience. And no longer a problem.

Thankfully these folks no longer need to worry about this. In fact, they stand to benefit. These huge amounts of used oil may be saved in barrels and turned into bio-diesel. They can either use it to fuel their car, home, or if they prefer, even sell it.

Biodiesel, as is the case with any diesel fuel, is intended for use in diesel engines. It is not to be used in a “regular” automobile which has not been converted for this purpose.

Biodiesel can also be used to heat your home. Who would not appreciate reducing the household heating bills? Especially with a struggling economy, where the extra money can be put to use for other necessities.

The use of biodiesel is certainly here to stay. There are simple recipes available at the library, and on the internet. Just remember to follow directions carefully. Homemade biodiesel will indeed save you a lot of cash, while helping the environment.

Did you know that there is homemade biodiesel? That’s right, you can make biodiesel at home and the Internet is the best place to learn how to go about doing it.

Go Green With the Way You Clean (And Save Money in the Process)

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

When it comes to using green cleaning products as a way of helping our environment, there is a wide range of opinion. Many of us think that they are just too expensive to both with, but in truth we are probably wasting our money on the products we currently use.

It only takes a few simple ingredients to clean all of the different areas around the home. And it doesn’t take long to make your own green cleaning products from scratch, which really won’t cost you much at all.

What’s Wrong With Traditional Cleaning Products?

There is actually no law forcing manufacturers to label all of the ingredients that go into our cleaning products, which is why it’s very shocking to hear that a number of the ingredients haven’t even been tested for safety on humans!

And, what’s worse, is that we are indirectly taking these products into our system. For example, when we spray our surfaces we breathe the ingredients in. And we also absorb all of the ingredients of our laundry detergents through the clothes we wear every day.

These ingredients are then sent into the environment through our water. The truth is these chemicals are not necessary for effective cleaning, so we don’t need to use them anymore.

A Healthy Alternative

If you want to start going green today then I am not about to tell you to go out and buy the most expensive products. Wait a while until you’ve used up the products you do have, and then set aside the plastic spray bottles they come in so that they can store the recipes you make yourself.

Some of the most popular ingredients to use include lemon juice, since it’s antibacterial. You can also use vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, which are very powerful for a wide range of cleaning applications.

You might not want to make all of your cleaning products from scratch, in which case you can look for eco-friendly brands in stores. They might be more expensive, but try buying in bulk, or opting for laundry detergents that will last for hundreds of uses.

If you want to go green you don’t have to change everything straight away. Start with your laundry, then move onto another area of your life. Before you know it you’ll never know why you relied on those toxic cleaning products!

Eco friendly cleaning isn’t as difficult as it might first seem. I’ve found many different simple recipes and natural cleaners to help make it easier for me to start going green.
