Selecting a Summer Camp for your camper takes some work. First think if your going to go to a Coed Camps or a sigle gender like a all boys camp. Each have their own benefit. Maybe a Coed Camp is best for your child. Now work with you child to find a camp that will increase their interests or expose them to new activities. After all that, here are the top 10 questions to ask a summer camp director. This list was compiled by the American Camp Association.

What’s the camp’s ideology? Are you comfortable with this ? Is it a good fit for your child? Is competition or cooperation emphasized? What religious observances or practices are part of the program? I

How does the camp recruit, screen and train its staff? Do counselors have criminal background checks? First aid training? Drug Testing?

What about return rates? How many counselors are returning this year? The ACA says at most camps, 50 percent of the staff returns. If the number you’re given is lower, ask why. How many campers return? Fifty percent is good, and more is better.

What’s the ratio of staff to camper? Guidelines for overnight camps are for a 1:6 ratio for ages for younger children, and 1:10 for older teens.

What’s the Staff Ages ? Eighty percent of the staff be 18 or older and that all staffers be at least 16 and a minimum of two years older than the campers they supervise. Are the staff a paid position or volunteers?

What about Health Care? Overnight camp have a licensed physician or registered nurse on the site daily, Day camps should be have direct phone access. Be sure you are comfortable that the camp will be able to handle your child’s special health care needs.

How does the camp Punish and Discipline? Know what your camp’s rules are and what breaches would send a camper home. You should be comfortable with these.

What does a typical daily schedule look like? This will help you decide if your child will be happy with the level of physical activity or the amount of time devoted to arts and crafts. Ask how much freedom a child has to choose activities.

How does the camp provide transportation? How often are the van inspected? Who is driving, what’s the training.

DIY Homemade Solar Panels

As energy prices rise, it is always good to look for cheaper alternatives to slash bills. After initial costs, solar power is energy for free. Getting the kit installed can be pricey though; here are a few tips to help build your own solar panel.

Ensure all the right equipment is to hand to avoid delay and frustration. The most important thing is to select the solar panels to be used. Time should be spent here, to ensure the exact right ones are used.

Other than this, you will need plywood, a circular saw, good sized length of 1 x 1, screws and screwdriver, caulk, outdoor paint, soldering equipment and solder, glue, copper wire, diode, batteries and Plexiglas.

The first step will be to draw a grid, suitable to your solar cells, on the plywood, (use them as a template). Having determined the size of the panel by this, you can cut the plywood to size and the fun can really start.

Take your 1 x 1 and cut to size; determined by the size of your plywood panel. The panel should be attached to these using your screws, and applying suitable amounts of caulk and painted with outdoor paint to protect from the elements.

The solar cells now need to be glued into place. However, they first need to be attached in a series. This is quite simple; soldering the tabs at the back of each together. It does need to be done carefully though, as the cells are delicate.

Next, attach the copper wire directly to your electrical system. You will also need to attach a diode line, which will prevent the batteries from leaching power.

Plexiglas now needs to be attached across the entire panel. Fix this into place with suitable amounts of caulk to thoroughly protect from the elements. Now you have managed to build your own solar panel for the first time; there should be no stopping you.

Recycle Printer Cartridges - Printer cartridges that are thrown away are a real problem for the environment, and are also the cause of unnecessary extra costs being incurred for companies. Once a printer cartridge has run out, the best and cheapest option is to just refill it yourself, alternatively though, you can send it back to the supplier, who will then sell you a recycled one, that works as good as a new one, for as little as half the price.

Re-Use Plastic Cups - Around 8% of global annual oil production is currently used in the manufacturing of plastics and the process of production uses harmful chemicals. North Sea Brent Crude Oil - Origins … Facts

North Sea Brent was discovered in the early 1960’s and is refined and consumed in the U.K, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Germany.

Brent Crude is a form of crude oil of which there are a number of different types. In the North Sea these include; Brent Crude, Sweet Crude, Brent Light, Ecofisk, Forties, and Oseberg. Brent Crude is the biggest of the family of North Sea crudes and its names originates from the bird the ‘Brent Goose’. In 1971 Shell discovered a huge oil field off the North East of Shetland. Their policy was to name all oil fields after birds. The particular crude that the Brent field produced was therefore named ‘Brent’ Crude.

North Sea Brent Crude is the benchmark crude and is used to price two thirds of the world’s internationally traded oil on the golbal market. The other well known classifications include Dubai Crude and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) which is a lighter and sweeter form of crude oil. Crude oil is considered to be ’sweet’ if it contains less 0.5% sulphur compared to the higher level of sulphur found in ’sour’ crude oil. High quality crude with a low sulphur content is commonly processed into petroleum/gasoline.

The most coveted, highly prized and sought after oil in both the North Sea and around the world is,’ Light-sweet crude,’ as its the easiest to refine into gasoline, kerosene and high quality diesel.

The term “sweet” originated because the low level of sulfur provides the oil with a mildly sweet taste and most pleasing smell. Nineteenth century prospectors that tasted and smelt small quantities of the oil to determine its quality thus named it ’sweet’, and the term has remained to this day.

Small Scale Wind Energy Discovered

Though we may just be starting on it and learning it, harnessing wind for energy is not a new phenomenon for the man kind. We only need to look at our history to know that this has happened before. These are particularly helpful in places which don’t have a constant flow of wind or where the direction of the wind keeps changing.
