How An Organic Wool Mattress Pad Will Give You Uninterrupted Sleep
Tuesday, March 9th, 2010We all love to sleep on a soft, comfortable mattress, we wake up feeling rejuvenated and fresh to meet our demanding schedules. What is probably the worst one can do, is sleep on a mattress which is hard and numbs your hips and elbows to such an extent that it cuts off circulation while you sleep. This is why you need an organic wool mattress pad to relieve you of your aches and pains.
But many people don’t know the difference between organic verses synthetic fibers. Organic means that sheep are being fed on free range pastures and when it comes time to shear their wool and process it, it is done without chemicals like bleach, or any kind of solvents. So by far the best type of quilting or mattress padding to sleep on would be those of organic origin.
On the other hand, a synthetic fiber mattress is manufactured using plastic substances and harsh chemicals. These fibers are thus unnatural to sleep on as they do not offer any protection against perspiration and allergies.
But take organic wool for instance, here each strand of fiber has a natural coat of lanolin around it, which gives us protection against allergies especially in the form of dust mites. So not treating it with chemicals helps us save money in the long run on medical bills.
It is a fact that wool is more comforting to lie on. It is a great insulator which helps our body to naturally regulate it’s temperature during the sleeping process. It lends heat for the winter and during the summer months you won’t feel sweaty as with the synthetic types of mattress pads. What this equates to is that you will not have to shift and turn to feel comfortable so the body get’s it’s uninterrupted rest.
When you are ready to buy your organic mattress pad, make sure that it is certified organic and not “natural” or “pure”. Although it sounds right, it is actually not correct, it must say “organic”. Then only will you get value for your money because some wools are still dyed with chlorine even though it says “natural”.
For an informed decision therefore, you should be cognizant of the fact that cotton fiber as opposed to woolen fiber is not the best choice to make. Cotton will become lumpy after a while as it packs because of compression from our bodies. The reason for this is because cotton attracts moisture. So for years of comfort and allergy free sleeping the only choice would be an organic wool mattress pad.
